COA

A COA on an instrument stands for "Clean, Oil, and Adjust." It's a standard maintenance service for woodwind and brass instruments that includes:

  • Cleaning the instrument internally and externally

  • Oiling key mechanisms or valves to ensure smooth action

  • Adjusting screws, springs, pads, and alignment for optimal playability

  • Precision leak testing (Mag Machine) and play-testing to ensure excellent response and intonation

General Adjustments

A general adjustment is a routine service that ensures your instrument plays smoothly and responds the way it should. It includes:

  • Aligning and regulating keys for proper timing and feel

  • Adjusting spring tension for balanced key action

  • Checking and sealing pads to eliminate air leaks

  • Oiling and lubricating key mechanisms

  • Tightening or replacing loose screws and corks

  • Play-testing to fine-tune response and intonation, and also leak testing (mag machine)

Overhaul

An overhaul is a full-service rebuild that includes:

  • Complete disassembly of the instrument

  • Thorough cleaning of all parts (ultrasonic, hand-cleaning, or chemical as appropriate)

  • Replacing all pads, corks, and felts

  • Resurfacing or replacing tone holes if needed

  • Polishing or removing tarnish from keys and body

  • Straightening bent keys or rods

  • Full regulation and key fitting for optimal action

  • Re-oiling and lubrication of the mechanism

  • Precision leak testing (Mag Machine) and play-testing to ensure excellent response and intonation
