Behind the Bench
I’m Adriana Sosa, a professional woodwind and brass repair technician, from San Juan, Puerto Rico. I earned my Bachelor's degree in Bassoon Performance from el Conservatorio de Música de Puerto Rico in 2016, then moved to the U.S.A. to complete my Master’s Degree in Bassoon Performance at Illinois State University in 2019. It was there that my bassoon professor, Michael Dicker, introduced me to instrument repair and the NAPBIRT community, where I’m a proud Certified Member. Inspired, I pursued certification as a Band Instrument Repair Technician at MSC Southeast Red Wing, Minnesota, and graduated in 2020.
Since then, I’ve had the honor of working with incredible mentors and music shops—including Rocky Mountain Music Repair and Music Depot in Colorado. At Fox Products in Indiana, I gained hands-on experience in bassoon manufacturing.
In 2023, I launched A Sosa Fix, working independently with private clients while continuing collaborations with my former shops. In 2024, I relocated to Los Angeles and began working at Westside Woodwind Repair with Jay Work—an incredible partnership that’s allowed me to repair instruments for clients such as YOLA, UCLA, private professional musicians, and students. I’m excited to continue growing in LA, and welcoming new clients.
I’m also deeply committed to returning to Puerto Rico regularly to serve the music community there. Giving back to my beautiful island—where my musical journey began—fills my heart and keeps me grounded in purpose.
I believe that there’s always something new to learn. I’m always seeking opportunities to grow professionally and earn additional certifications. Looking forward to connecting with you, Adriana.
